Protection Island and Nanaimo Wednesday 4 We left our temporary home in Vancouver and took the scenic bus along Marine Dr. In West Vancouver to the ferry terminal in Horseshoe Bay for our Ferry to Nanaimo. Rebeka met us on the Nanaimo end and drove us to the termial for the Protection Island ferry. On the island we were met by our Airbnb host Liz who helped us to get installed in our little cabin. https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/11575974 The setting is idyllic with chairs for us looking out over the beach and the water. Thursday 5 Our first morning and we had our coffee on the beach, watching the various boats and ferries go by... also Canada Geese and a river otter. Later we explored the island, which is very small with houses and cabins of all sorts, from the rustic to the luxurious. During the coal mining era in Nanaimo there was a mine head here on the island and there are still aritifacts here and there from that time. Apparently the shaft was sunk her...

San Francisco and Vancouver. Mardi le 26 juin Encore à SF via le BART nous avons trouvé l’immense oeuvre fontaine d’Armand Vaillancourt qui est en plein centre ville. Nous avions entendu toute sortes d’histoire de comment l’ouvre était dans un état pitoyable et qu’il n’avait même pas d’eau. Mais en verité la fontaine était en plein action et nous l’avons trouvée magnifique. Après nous aons monté l’Embarcadero, la voie qui longe les quais de l’ancien port de SF. Maintenant les édifices ont été rénovés et servent comme centres d’exposition, marchés ou bureaux. Nous avons continué jusqu’au Telegraph Hill où nous avons monté les 500 marches menant au Coit Tower. Nos vieux cœurs sont encore en bon état! La tour, construit au début des années ‘30, est décorée à l’intérieur par les oeuvres des artistes qui n’étaient pas capable de travailler à cause de la grande dépression. First day out of Montreal

June 20, 2018 We board the Amtrak train for Schenectady this morning, connecting there for Chicago. This is the root we take (the part between Montreal and Plattsburgh is missing. From Schenectady we take this route to Chicago. Le voyage de Montréal à Schenectady était tranquille, en attendant le transfert de train nous avons mangé au pub irlandais à côté de la gare. La gare est fermée pour des rénovations. Quand nous sommes revenus de notre souper pour monter sur le train vers Chicago le responsable d’Amtrak a annoncé les détails du trajet avec tous les arrêts à haute voix, sans microphone, comme un pro. À bord du Lake Shore Limited en direction Chicago, nous n’avions que des banc assez large quand même, donc la nuit a été pas des plus reposantes. Au moins c’était relativement tranquille en dépit du fait que le train était quasiment plein.
